10th PSITE National Convention was held at the National Capital Region particularly in Heritage Hotel along Roxas Boulevard. I was able to attend the said national convention. This time, I am hoping that I could attend the convention since it is being held here in Mindanao to cater to the wish of Mindanao ICT educators and organizations just to lessen the fare and lodging expenses. FYI, about 10 or 11 were the attendees of the last convention from Region 11. We were noted as one, if not the best PSITE Chapter in the Philippines because of its undying activities in the academe, industries, and community involvements, not just solely for Region 11 but affecting the Mindanao island . Actually, the said dates of the convention were the same with our decided dates for ITE Foundation Days. Until now, I am contemplating of either to register and attend or not. I gave myself a deadline to decide until Monday, February 2, 2009. It’s very difficult to decide since I was assigned to spearhead the Foundation days.

Side trip to the convention, not to mention the famous Dakak Beack Resort, the Boracay Haven of Mindanao is part of the convention and it will be promoted in the convention. Not just Dakak, this will promote as well Mindanao as haven of tourist spots and sights. To recall, Dakak was one of the preliminary swinsuit competition venues of the 1994 Miss Universe Beauty Pageant.

See you there!

Midterm Exam Finale, SAP Meeting, Guidance Presentation

Friday, January 30th, 2009

Today marks the end of January and prepares us for the month of love.

Today as well marked the end of the Midterm Examinations here at UIC. Rest day for students and preparing once again for the last period of the semester, the Finals. For the instructors, time to check and evaluate once again the performances of the students under them and as well preparing for Final grading lessons and requirements.

The ITE Program as well met the SAP (Systems, Applications, Products in Data Processing) Advocates and promoted the product to the UIC community particularly the Business and Accountancy Program, ITE, and the Engineering Programs. Overall impression was good but needed to be discussed and contemplated all of its pros and cons. Deploying it to academe is no joke especially the financial/fee aspect. We have to consider also the curriculum alignment.

After 2 hours of absorbing the meats of this new framework, the Guidance Office has prepared a comprehensive presentation about the ITE Freshmen and Sophomores about their overall performance in school. They have presented and discussed as well the influences and factors that affects their studies. The good thing was we identified the causes why students are not performing well in their academic life and its effects to them.

As for myself, I am not feeling well physically and emotionally.  Stress and pressures might be one of the reasons. Unwinding would be one of the solutions.

Isla Reta + Birthday Bash = Great Unwind!

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

Isla Reta, Talicud Island, Island Garden City of Samal (IGACOS), Davao del Norte - This is one of the beach resorts that I admired away from the city. It’s a 1-hour travel by a small barge from Sta. Ana wharf (near Magsaysay Park) to the Isla Reta wharf.

From left: Raphael (celebrant), Kevin, Christian (future nurse), Grace (GirlOpinion.com), Kathy, That’s Me, and Sir Roy

These are just some of the wonderful pictures we had during the birthday celebration + bonding time with some of my friends and former students. Thanks rap for the treat. Happy birthday again!

2009 Chinese New Year!

Monday, January 26th, 2009

The year is not complete without the celebration of Chinese New Year-Philippine Version (actually, it’s every year’s much awaited event). This marks the official beginning of the year for some, the year of the OX. January 25-26 are allotted days for the celebration of the event. Some would say, the year will bring goodness and for the rest, bad luck. The same scenario every year, but the important thing is that still our faith to the Almighty will be more stronger and tighter. Chinese new year lucks are just guides to make our lives more exciting and challenging. These are for us to do our best to survive in every circumstance we are about to face, facing and to face.

In my case, we do not have work today (in leau with their celebration). In Davao City, there is a local version of China Town at the Uyanguren/Ramon Magsaysay Street. In that area, there are many Chinese businessmen and establishments. It is one of the busiest streets and places in the city. They considered Davao City as their second home (not to mentioned that they’ve married Filipina or Filipino).

Anyway, to all Chinese and Filipino-Chinese, Happy New Year or Kung Hei Fat Choi.

May the luck of the year of the Ox be present in all our lives.

It’s my day today!

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

The University of the Immaculate Conception (UIC) is yearly celebrating its Catholic (not just for Catholics, including me) Educators’ Day every January to give tribute to our dear educators, for their hard works, sacrifices, dedications, and love to their chosen vocation. They are always saying that being an “educator is a noblest profession of all”.

TODAY, January 23, 2009 is Catholic Educators’ Day to held at the UIC Main Auditorium with the Supreme Student Officers as the overall coordinator of the event. The classes today were adjusted to give way for the celebration. It is to be started with a Eucharistic celebration then right after will be the program proper.

Actually, it’s my day! Cheers to all educators not just here but all throughout the world.

I would like to thank as well my mentors in the past and the present for molding me for whatever and whoever I am this moment. Thank you so much and I salute you all!

Very Unfamous People!

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

US President Barack Obama

Philippines’ Boxing Champion Manuel “Manny” Pacquiao

You Tube Sensation Charice Pempengco

These people have made an important role in their fields. Totally famous and that’s their commonalities! Every corner, in all directions in the world, their names are already nailed in the history and that’s for sure! Their fames are really obvious.

Ordinary Post (but NOT for ME)!

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

Work…work..to survive….I just ended up my classes with no unusualities happened or took place. Quite tiring but again as usual…seeing my students have brightened my whole day in one way or another…LOL

Highlights this week so far?

Wednesday, January 21 - ITE Program first Assembly for 2009. Since I was the assigned instructor and as one of my roles as the Acad. Chair, the agenda are as follows: upcoming ITE Foundation Day activities and instructions, some academic concerns, community extension programs, exam. reminders (this would be next week!) and other matters.

For the information of all, this Friday, January 23 is a special day for us here at school because it is dedicated to our dear College Catholic (not all, and I am one of those) Educators. It’s my day actually! There was a memo coming from the University President and circulated in all offices about the said event that there will be a class schedule adjustments that day just to allocate the special day for us.

Overview of what will happen this friday?

Traditionally, it will be started with a mass celebration then program proper right after. It will be facilitated by the SSG (Supreme Student Government) officers. I am hoping that something new will take place and be presented for us (educators) to be entertained. Each program in the university is required to present a mini-program for their respective educators. Let’s see and wait for that day! I’ll just blog the details right after.

PS. Just this very moment, somebody gave me something..my favorite stuff ever…with great power comes with great responsibility..(that’s the hint!) —>Thanks to Miss Arbie M.<— It made my day complete! Thank you, thank you, thank you…

Tonight along with Roy, Au, Grace (his sweetie) and I will be attending the initial treats of Rap’s birthday tonight.

Things/Time to Cope up!

Saturday, January 17th, 2009

It’s almost half-way for the month of January and only 2 months more to go to close the semester. 2009 welcomed me with joys and shall we say “challenges”, but little by little I am coping them up and emotionally strengthened enough to face the challenges and tasks again. I’ve been ineffective these past days because of some troubles at home, but what can I do, instead of murmuring and blaming what so ever or who ever, I need to focus and determine still to my other sides or else MY EMOTIONS WILL EAT ME ALIVE WITH NO FIGHTS. God knows that I am doing my best to solve the mess but I am so sure that He will do the rest for me.

Time for me is not anymore as precious as gold but rather as genuine as a diamond. Literally, diamond is much expensive compared to gold. Anyway, as the title of this post goes, I need and have to cope things for the benefits of all. Here are some of the things that needs to have my attention and focus:

1. As an Academic Chairperson, I need to double time my efforts to meet up and follow up those students who have problems in academics. As I’ve checked the performance of the students last prelim period, many freshmen failed in minor subjects, plus the dropped students…tsk..tsk.. why? —>50% done!

2. I was assigned to spearhead the ITE Foundation day along with Program officers this February. Prior to our faculty meeting, I have met up the officers and talked some of the details of the remaining activities/highlights this semester and one of those was the ITE Foundation Day. I had already the tentative line up of activities and need some refinement, verifications and validations. —>50% done!

3. Deliberation of the Graduating students is no joke! —>5% progress

4. Summer Schedules for Summer Classes—>2% progress

5. Junior OJTs —> company follow ups! —>0% progress

6. CDITE/PSITE Commitment be strengthened! I missed many meetings…—>Unknown!

7. Faculty Performance report!—>0% progress

8. ITE Open Laboratory Concerns - Thank you to Sir Eric for taking incharge…hehehe…

See, that’s how idle I am! God bless us everyone!

Superman VS Spiderman

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

Superman is the dominate comic book superhero of all time, he was since he was created and will be for time and memorial, after all he is - SUPER. Superman is superior from every aspect imaginable. He does not have to resort to tricks like Spider-Man to get over large buildings. Superman does it in a single bound, and Spider-Man, he has to use sticky stings that flows from a wrist band. Now how can they even be close in comparison, and that is just one example. Superman has flown around the earth and turned back time, while Spider-Man does not even have the gift of flight. Superman has a the classic “S” for superman across the front of his outfit, a cape and gets away with disguissing himself by simply taking off a pare of glasses. Spider-Man? He is covered by a silly set of tights with spider webs drawn on them, has to cover his face with a mask, and what does he do in his spare time, take pictures, where Superman has a serious job as a journalist, which takes more talent and helps in his crime fighting. Superman was not from earth originally, he was sent here after conflict on his planet blew up his birthplace, Krypton, but his parents had a purpose for his journey here, and that was to save us from ourselves. On the other hand

Spider-Man was accidentally bitten by a radioactive spider. They simply are not comparable. Superman was the first to have his own award winning television show and all other comic book heroes come in a distant second, following in wake of Superman.
Lex Luthor is Superman’s archenemy, and is famous for his diabolical plots to destroy the planet and take it over. Spider-Mans’ competition is in the form of a bunch of second rate villains. Spider-Man is a mere armature in comparison. The important distinction is that Superman fights for, Truth, Justice and the American Way, while Spider-Man fought in revenge of his uncles death when he needed money. That sums it up, does it? Not even to mention Superman has ex-ray vision and superhuman strength. Spider-Man has some superhuman abilities like being lighting fast and is very personable. But no superhero will ever get the adoration that the, one for all time superhero receives, and that is-SUPERMAN, THE MAN OF STEEL.

When you turn towards flagship characters, the two big S names come to mind. The Man of Tomorrow, Superman, and the Amazing Spider-Man. But who could possibly be the best?

I’ve always been a HUGE Spider-Man fan, and who wouldn’t be? He’s a character who is easily related to, for starters. Money problems, crushes on women far out of his league, and a long running string of pure bad luck. If you were to wake up tomorrow and be a superhero, chances are you’d be more like Spider-Man.

But its more than that. He has a believable origin that could just as easily be seen in your newspaper as in your comic book. No, not the radioactive spider elements; that’s a bit far fetched. I’m talking about the needless death of his beloved Uncle Ben, murdered by the very thief that Spider-Man had allowed to escape him earlier that night. Driven by his Uncle’s death, Spider-Man is a character motivated to atone for a grand sin that he can never really atone for. Several writers have referred to Spider-Man as the ultimate “lapsed Catholic” for this argument.

And then there’s the style. The bright, red and blue costume with webs and giant eyes not only looks cool as hell, it gives off a bug-like appearance. The web shooters are a great offense and defense, and genuinely look like fun toys to have for yourself. And who wouldn’t want to swing around the New York City skyline at night?

He’s also boasting a far more impressive Rogues Gallery than the Man of Steel. Venom, Doctor Octopus, and the Green Goblin (just to name a few) are far more threatening in that they also have knowledge of, or some relationship to, Peter Parker just as much as Spider-Man. Not only can they physically attack and harm Spider-Man, but they also can destroy him emotionally. Its only his willpower and never ending desire to succeed that allow him to overcome such grand challenges.

In short, while Superman is a great character, Spider-Man will always be far superior to myself and other comic fans not because of his powers and stories, but because of his shortcomings. No other hero is capable of facing such odds and overcoming them, even if the odds are just bad writer/artist teams. The greatest superhero is Spider-Man, because he reminds us all that beyond the superhero is just an ordinary man who only seeks to do right.

*I just love the two superheroes. They have their own strengths and weaknesses. The good things there are they are using them for the benefits of other people, shall we say a selfless act that no one can fathom except Christ. Everyone of us has his/her own superheroes in life, no gender exemptions for this. Our heroes would not mean a famous person but those people who are playing an important role in our lives.*
