All Set For Manila - July 17 - 18, 2009

In relation to the 2009 Open Jive Finals in Manila, the UIC teams have tried its best to meet the deadlines with quality output to be presented infront of the Panelists next week.

The JEDI Philippines (Sun Education Project) has emailed us about the activities on July 17 - 18, 2009. They emailed us as well the round trip tickets of our teams and accommodation as well will shouldered by Sun Microsystems.

There will be dry-run/ rehearsal on July 17, 2009 @ TIP-QC , 938 Aurora Boulevard, Cubao, Quezon City starts at 11:00am . The proponents are asked to bring their laptop.

Summer is Over! New Tasks! New Challenges!

I truly missed blogging!

Days from now will be June already! The summer class has just ended and the summer season itself is about to end.

New tasks and challenges awaits me this June. New sets of students would mean new characters, new faces, new beginnings, new adjustments, and new challenges, but the same subject to be taught [as usual]. I will be handling still Computer Programming 2 for BSIT2 this semester [June - October 2009].

May this semester be fruitful to all of us with full learnings and fun.

UPDATES! Summer classes have just started!

There are two subjects offered for the BSIT 1 this summer: Digital Circuits and Electronics and the Computer Organization and Architecture. No summer classes for the BSCS 1.

It’s been a while since my last post about Parents’ Recognition and 2009 Graduation Rite. Honestly, I am consume with many activities this end of the 2nd semester and initial start of the summer, not to mention the “hot” environment and some commitments.

To make the story short, here are some of my “just ended” tasks, activities, and on going tasks:

  1. my 2nd Semester Grades (CPROG1) - 100% DONE!
  2. Monitoring of Faculty Grades (Major) for 2nd Semester - 95% DONE! = manageable!
  3. Summer Classes/Schedules for BSIT 1 - 100% DONE
  4. Summer Practicum for BSIT 3 and BSCS 3 - 85% DONE, since some still do not have company for their OJT
  5. Program Performance Report (Faculty and Student) for 2nd Semester - 100% DONE
  6. SPED Computer Literacy Class (4th Batch) - After having some internal misunderstanding regarding the schedules, in the end, the Administration and the SPED Computer Development have met half way, instead of 16 Sundays, they (ADMIN) gave them 6 Sundays to complete the 4th Batch of Classes. What can we do, but to follow, we gave already the pros and cons, and so be it. The good thing, the 4th Batch of classes were pursued and sadly, this will be the last batch, I will truly miss this advocacy. - 95% DONE, let’s see some issues that will arise during the start of the class this April 19.
  7. List of Software to be used in the Laboratory this 1st Semester - 0% DONE, I will set a meeting with the faculty about this. The first batch under the new curriculum of BSIT will take the majoring this June already. Some sort of nervousness and some challenges if this endeavor will be successful or not. There is always a first time but we (faculty and Admin) are really trying our best to cater to this demand. Good luck to all of us!
  8. Scouting for some prospects for new Faculty Line Up - 25% DONE, there were who extend their interest but no commitments still were given! NO APPLICANTS YET!
  9. the CHALLENGING 1st Semester Class Schedules - 0% DONE
  10. Meeting the Faculty about the “advising” way for the incoming 3rd year BSIT who will take their major already - 5% DONE
  11. my 2nd Semester Clearance - 10% DONE, many requirements to be settled first. I CANNOT GET MY SALARY FOR THIS MONTH!
  12. initial paneling for the incoming BSIT 4th year for their IT Project Proposal - 100% DONE
  13. redefense paneling for the rejected and conditionally accepted proposals - 0% DONE
  14. consultant for 3 groups for their IT Project - 50% DONE (Proposal Stage) + 0% DONE (ACTUAL TECHNICAL CHECKING) + 0% (Final Presentation), I was so happy that these 3 groups under my consultancy HAVE successfully defended their proposals, despite of the limited time given for our consultations, but you can see the “sense of urgency” among the members, and that was one of the reasons why they got the approval of the 3 panelists, I am so proud of you guys!
  15. Mati Escapade - 0%, unexpected, it’s a separate story
  16. Outings, Outings - need these for myself, but I will not promise and am not so sure if I could have these this time, come what may…
  17. and many more to come…

Anyway, those are just my activities, a very simple list of my things to do this summer. No regret so far, tiring but fulfilling in my part.

Before I end this post, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate our one faculty and Graduate School professor, Mr. Melquiades Hayag, Jr., finally he is now a Doctor in IT. Congrats Doc. We’re so proud of you!

NEWS! Parents’ Recognition Tonight!

Prior to graduation or a day before the graduation, this coming March 22, 2009 will be the tradition of the University of the Immaculate Conception to give tributes and honor to our dear parents, or shall I say, the heroes of the education of our graduates.

As well as tonight will be the awarding of program awards for deserving graduating students in the areas of program academic excellence, leadership, special talents, performing arts, literary/musical, sports, and others.

For the awardees, congratulations! The moment you will graduating this March 22 is already a “once in a lifetime award” dedicated to your parents and perfect gift to yourself as well. No one can take this gift from you. Program awards are just bonuses for your exemplary actions and endeavors during your 4 or 5 year stay in the university.

For the ITE Program, you really made us proud! Your batch is one of the best batches in the ITE program! That’s from my heart! Continue to dream high and aim always for excellence guided with Marian characters and equip with skills that you’ve gained from this university!

Kudos to all of you!

UIC AY 2008 - 2009 2nd Sem. is officially off!

Yesterday, has officially marked the closure of the 2nd semester for the University of the Immaculate Conception AY 2008 - 2009.

But, as usual for the ITE students (CS, IT, IS), it is not yet over since most, if not all, are still complying for the final requirements, examinations and projects for their respective subject. Our graduating ITE students are still complying for the final revisions of their projects and theses before finally hard binding them. FYI, there are 48 graduates for IT, 23 for CS, and 1 for IM this academic year and spearheaded by two honor graduates, 1 Magna Cumlaude (BSCS) and 1 Cumlaude (BSIT). As well, a strong contender for the Search for Outstanding ITE Student in Region 11 from the BSCS.

Graduation day for the college will be this coming March 22, 2009 at UIC Bajada Auditorium and a day before the graduation will be their Parents’ Recognition to be held at UIC Main Auditorium to give tributes to parents and giving of citations and program awards fro deserving graduating students.

Other side of the program would be the preparation for the summer classes for BSIT 1and practicum/OJT requirements/tasks for the Juniors.

Summer class with start on April 6 (Tentative) and enrolment will start on March 23.

For our dear ITE graduating students, CONGRATULATIONS GUYS, Thank you for being part of us and the program through thick and thin! WE ARE ALL PROUD OF YOU!, for the lower years, ALWAYS DO YOUR BEST in your studies, be good always!  and LET GOD WILL DO THE REST!

11th PSITE National Convention - Many “First” for 11 years!–UPDATED–

“Emerging Trends in ICT Education” was the carrying theme of the recently concluded 11th Philippine Society of IT Educators (PSITE) National Convention held at Zanorte Convention Center, Gen. Luna St., Dipolog City last February 26-28, 2009. Not to mention, Dakak Beach and Park Resort in Dapitan City was one of the venues as well for the JEDI Night and CHED TPITE forum.

This is a yearly convention of all IT Educators in the Philippines from CAR to ARMM regions to post updates and development in the ICT education. The event as well was one of the venues to foster camaraderie and linkages among different educators around the country.

It was too awkward for us Mindanaoans especially from Region 11 because for us to go to Dipolog City, we especially I needed to have connecting flights from Davao to Cebu to Dipolog and my flight back to Davao was from Dipolog to Manila to Davao. Well, my Cebu Pacific flight from Dipolog to Manila (from original 12:40 PM and was changed to 2:00 PM) was delayed and it was repeated when I had my flight back from Manila to Davao (from original 6:35 PM and was changed to 7:10 PM). All these things were happened on the same date. It was quite discouraging (flights) but still fulfilling in my part because of the information I have gained from the convention itself. Not to mention guys, the arrival of Senator Manny Villar that made more the convention memorable and exciting for the rest I guess.

February 25 - Date of Arrival

Most of the participants have arrived on this day. More than 200 participants were there for the annual convention. Finding of the assigned accommodations and strolling around the city for the first time were our first activities.

February 26, 2009 - First Day

The formal opening of the convention. Topics presented that day were focusing on the gap between the industries and the academe. For the first time in PSITE National Conventions, there were reactors assigned for a specific presenter. The day was not complete without the fireworks display (another first in the national convention) sponsored by Department of Tourism IX plus the ever prepared presentation of the hosted institution, the Dipolog Medical Center - College Foundation (The Center of Development for IT Education in Region IX) in the evening. The DMC-CF has prepared a sumptuous dinner assisted by their HRM students. Wines and party was with the night. Everybody was refreshed from hectic schedules in the morning and afternoon. Still, great first day ever for the convention.

February 27, 2009 - Second Day

Continuation of the meaty and substance topics. Presentations such as Best Practices in IT Education in the fields of Instruction, Research and Development, and the Linkages and Community Extensions. I’ve learned a lot from these topics and brought home the ideas and concepts that I thought applicable as well in my mother institution. Later in the afternoon, everybody was excited because we did prepare ourselves to go to Dakak Beach Resort (one of the exciting highlights of the convention and totally world-class) to continue there the celebration with JEDI (Java Education Development Initiative) Night was the center of the celebration. Sun Microsystems awarded JEDI Trainers and Champions that night and it’s an annual awards given to those deserved advocates of Java Projects. Cultural Show was presented, Foods were anywhere and wines poured to every guest’s table. The night was really awesome. The 2nd day was completed with a fantastic bang of fireworks at Dakak Beach Resort.

February 28, 2009 - Third Day (Half Day)

Last day of the convention…CHED Consultation and TPITE (Technical Panel on IT Education) were there to cater to the questions to any development of the organization regarding the IT Education in the country, focusing on producing graduates with quality skills, soft skills, back up with technical skills, and leadership motivation.

Generally, the convention was great and so far for my two attendance of the National Convention, this 11th PSITE National Convention was the one that surpassed my expectations. There were lapses especially in the accommodation part but all those lapses were covered with meaty and substance presentations + the credible speakers + prepared reactors + excellent welcome with fireworks and sumptuous foods + nice place = Two Thumbs Up Convention!

Congratulations to the organizing committees, PSITE IX, to Dr. Gamboa (for spearheading the convention as the VP for Mindanao) and the rest. Kudos to all you Guys!

Before I forget, another first in the history of PSITE, the newly elected PSITE National President was outside Luzon/NCR, and he’s Dr. Randy S. Gamboa (my former dean, my mentor, and my motivator) and the Mr. Edwin Maranon (my former mentor in the Graduate School) was the elected VP for Mindanao. Mindanaoans totally ruled the organization.

FYI: NCITE 2009 will be held at the Capitol University, Cagayan de Oro City and the 12th PSITE National Convention will be at Bohol (I am not so sure if the host school would be the Holy Name University?). See you all there!
